Edward E. Vickers

Edward E. Vickers, 86, of Alum Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston, after a brief illness. He was born May 22, 1927, in Nellis, and he was a former resident of Alkol.

Ed was employed by Appalachian Construction Company with 40 years of service, retiring as vice president. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Surviving are his loving wife of 70 years, Garnett Ford Vickers; daughters, Vicki (Robert) Stevens of South Charleston and Melinda (John) Moore of Charleston; son, Paul Edward (Connie) Vickers of Hurricane; grandchildren, Patricia Smith Roberts, Jenny Smith Commins, Paula Vickers Lawson, Thomas Moore, Allison Moore and Caroline Moore; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Vickers Matthews of Sumerco and Jean Vickers Pauley of Yawkey; and brother, Richard Vickers of Sumerco.

At Mr. Vickers' request, his body was donated to Marshall University Medical School.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Curry Funeral Home, 2097 Childress Road, Alum Creek, with Pastor Keith George officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Kanawha Hospice, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387 or Forks of Coal Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 506, Alum Creek, WV 25003.
